Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from his father, from Abu Ya’la, who said: Ar-Rabi’ ibn Khuthaym, when he would pass by a gathering, would say: "Speak good, do good, and persist in what is righteous. Do not harden your hearts, and do not let time become too long for you, and do not be like those who said, 'We hear,' while they do not hear."
