Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:738

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Al-Mas'udi informed us, from 'Awn ibn 'Abd Allah, he said: No one places death in its true place except a servant who counts tomorrow as not being of his lifespan. How many a person who anticipates a day does not complete it, and one who hopes for a tomorrow does not reach it. If you were to see the appointed time (death) and its course, you would hate hope and its deception.
