Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: I heard al-A’mash, he said: ‘Amr ibn Murrah narrated to us, from Ibn Sabit, who said: Four manage the affairs of the world: Jibril, Mika’il, Israfil, and the Angel of Death. As for Jibril, he is in charge of the armies and the wind. As for Mika’il, he is in charge of the rain and the vegetation. As for the Angel of Death, he is entrusted with the seizing of souls. As for Israfil, he descends with the command upon them regarding what they are commanded to do.
