Hadith 33:777

Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Asim, from a man, from ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr, who said: A man had three friends, some of whom were closer to him than others. He said: A calamity befell him, so he met the one who was the closest of the three to him and said, "O so-and-so, such-and-such has befallen me, and I would like for you to help me." He said, "I am not one who will do that." So he went to the one who was next to him in closeness and said, "O so-and-so, such-and-such has befallen me, and I would like for you to help me." He said, "I will go with you until you reach the place you desire, but when you reach it, I will return and leave you." So he went to the one who was the least close of the three and said, "O so-and-so, such-and-such has befallen me, and I would like for you to help me." He said, "I will go with you wherever you go, and I will enter with you wherever you enter." He said: As for the first, his wealth remained behind with his family, and nothing of it followed him. The second, his family and his kin took him to his grave, then they returned and left him. The third is his deed; it is wherever he goes, and it enters with him wherever he enters.
