Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:889

'Abbad ibn al-'Awwam narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Fudayl ibn Zayd al-Raqashi, who said: Do not let people distract you from your own self, for the matter will reach you without them. And do not say, "I will cut off [my sins] from us today with such and such," for everything you have done in that regard is being counted against you. And we have not seen anything faster in catching up, nor better in seeking, than a recent good deed for an old sin.
