Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:906

Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, who said: We were with Mutarrif, and we mentioned Allah and supplicated to Him. He said: "If this is something that has already been decreed for you in the Remembrance (the Preserved Tablet), then Allah has intended good for you. And if this is something that is occurring in the night and the day, then Allah has intended good for you. So, whichever of the two it may be, praise Allah for it."
