Hadith 33:912
'Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Mutarrif, who said: We used to say that no two men loved each other for the sake of Allah except that the better of the two was the one who was more intense in his love for his companion. He said: Then, when Madh'ur or 'Amir ibn 'Abd Allah was exiled, Madh'ur met Mutarrif and began to converse with him. Mutarrif said: I began to say, "O my brother, why do you detain me when the stars have declined and the night has passed?" He would say, "O Allah, [it is] for You," then he would converse with him for an hour. Then he would say, "O my brother, why do you detain me when the stars have declined and the night has passed?" He would say, "O Allah, [it is] for You." When morning came, I was informed that he had been exiled, and I realized for two nights his superiority over me.
