Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Asim, who said: We said to Talq ibn Habib, "Describe Taqwa (piety/God-consciousness) to us." He said: "Taqwa is acting in obedience to Allah, hoping for the mercy of Allah, upon a light from Allah. And Taqwa is leaving the disobedience of Allah, fearing the punishment of Allah, upon a light from Allah."
