Hadith 33:943
Hussain bin Ali narrated to us, from Ja’far bin Burqan, who said: It reached me that Ibn Munabbih used to say: The most helpful of character traits for the religion is asceticism in the world, and the quickest of them to cause ruin is following desires. From following desires is the craving for the world, and from the craving for the world is the love of wealth and status. From the love of wealth and status is the deeming of forbidden things as lawful. From the deeming of forbidden things as lawful is the anger of Allah. The anger of Allah is the disease for which there is no cure except the pleasure of Allah. The pleasure of Allah is a medicine with which no disease causes harm. Whoever wants to please his Lord must displease his own self, and whoever does not displease his own self will not please his Lord. If it is the case that whenever something of his religion becomes burdensome upon a person he abandons it, it is imminent that nothing will remain with him.
