Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated to us, from Qurrah, who said: I heard al-Hasan saying: "Corruption has appeared in the land and the sea because of what the hands of the people have earned." He said: Allah corrupted them by their sins in the land of the earth and its sea through their wicked deeds. "So that they may return," meaning: that those who come after them may return.
