Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 38:177

Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, he said: Mujalid bin Sa’id narrated to us, from ‘Umayr bin Wathi, Abu Kabir, who said: Ali addressed us one day, and the Khawarij stood up and interrupted his speech. He said: So he descended and entered, and we entered with him. He said: "Verily, I was only eaten the day the white bull was eaten." Then he said: "My likeness is like three bulls and a lion that gathered in a thicket: a white one, a red one, and a black one. Whenever the lion wanted something from them, they would gather and prevent him from it. So he said to the red one and the black one: 'Indeed, nothing exposes us in this thicket of ours except the presence of this white one. So leave me and him alone until I eat him, then I will be alone with you two in this thicket, for your color is like my color and my color is like your color.' He said: So they did so. He said: Then he pounced on him and did not delay in killing him. He said: Whenever he wanted one of them, they would gather and prevent him from it. Then he said to the red one: 'O red one, indeed nothing makes us conspicuous in this thicket of ours except the presence of this black one. So leave me and him alone until I eat him, then I will be alone with you, for my color is like your color and your color is like my color.' He said: So he refrained from him, and he pounced on him and did not delay in killing him. Then he remained for as long as Allah willed, then he said to the red one: 'O red one, I am going to eat you.' He said: 'Will you eat me?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'If you must, then let me cry out three times, then do as you wish with me.' He said: Then he said: 'Verily, I was only eaten the day the white bull was eaten.'" He said: Then Ali said: "Verily, I was only brought to ruin the day Uthman was killed."
