Hadith 38:44
Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Ma’mar, who said: Sayf ibn Fulan ibn Mu’awiyah al-Anazi narrated to me, he said: My maternal uncle narrated to me, from my grandfather, who said: When the day of the Camel came and the people were in turmoil, the people stood before Ali claiming things, and they spoke at length, so he did not understand them. He said: "Is there not a man who will summarize his speech for me in five or six words?" So I braced myself on one of my legs, and I said: If he likes my speech, [good], otherwise I will sit down nearby. I said: "O Commander of the Faithful, the speech is neither five nor six, but rather it is two words: either reconciliation or retribution." He said: So he looked at me and knotted thirty with his hand, then said: "Have you seen what you have counted? It is beneath this foot of mine."
