Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 18:1018

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Ashhab narrated to us, he said: I heard Muzahim al-Dabbi narrating to al-Hasan from Ibn Abbas, who said: While a man had watered [his animals] in a basin of his, waiting for some [animals] to come to him, a man came to him riding, thirsty and calm. He said: "Will you let me drink?" He said: "No." He moved aside and hobbled his mount. When it saw the water, it approached the basin and broke the basin. The owner of the basin stood up, took a sword from his neck, and struck him with it until he killed him. He went out seeking a legal opinion, and he asked men from the companions of Muhammad—I will not name them—and all of them caused him to despair [of forgiveness], until he came to a man among them. He said: "Are you able to seek a tunnel in the earth or a ladder into the sky?" He said: "No." The man stood up and went not far, then he called him and brought him back. He said: "Do you have any parents?" He said: "Yes, my mother is alive." He said: "Serve her and be dutiful to her, for if Allah admits you to the Fire, then may Allah distance the one whom He has distanced."
