Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, he said: al-Mas’udi narrated to us, from al-Qasim ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, he said: A man came with a slave girl from al-Qadisiyyah, and he passed by a man standing on a beast. The man poked the beast, so the beast raised its leg and did not miss the eye of the slave girl. The matter was raised to Salman ibn Rabi’ah al-Bahili, and he held the rider liable. This reached Ibn Mas’ud, and he said: "Upon the man [is no liability]; rather, the one who poked [the beast] is the one who is liable."
