Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 18:466

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, from Jarir ibn Hazim, from Hammad, who was asked about a slave who commits a crime. He said: His master has the choice; if he wishes, he may pay [the indemnity], and if he wishes, he may surrender him [to the victim]. If he emancipates him, then he is liable for the price of the slave, and there is nothing upon the master if he emancipates [him].
