Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 18:769

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us, from al-Hasan, regarding a man who slapped his wife, so she came seeking retribution (qisas). The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, granted her retribution against him. Then Allah the Exalted revealed: "And do not hasten with the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you." And there was revealed: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other."
