Hadith 10:1134
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Sa’d ibn Ishaq, from Zaynab bint Ka’b ibn Ujrah—and she was married to Abu Sa’id al-Khudri—that his sister, Furay’ah bint Malik, said: My husband went out in pursuit of some slaves of his who had fled, and he overtook them at the edge of al-Qadum, where they killed him. The news of my husband’s death reached me while I was in a house among the houses of the Ansar, far from the houses of my family. So I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the news of my husband’s death has reached me while I am in a house, and the house of my brothers is far from the house of my family. He did not leave behind any wealth to provide for me, nor did he leave any inheritance, nor a house that he owned. If you see fit, permit me to join the house of my family or the house of my brothers, for it is more beloved to me and more conducive to gathering my affairs." He said: "Do so if you wish." She said: I went out, content with what Allah had decreed upon the tongue of His Messenger, until when I was in the mosque or in some part of the room, he called me and asked: "What did you say?" So I recounted the story to him. He then said: "Stay in your house where your husband was until the decree reaches its term." She said: So I observed the waiting period (iddah) in it for four months and ten days.
حدثنا أبو بكر قال نا أبو خالد الأحمر عن سعد بن إسحاق عن زينب بنت كعب بن عجرة وكانت تحت أبي سعيد الخدري أن أخته فريعة ابنة مالك قالت خرج زوجي في طلب أعلاج له فأدركهم بطرف القدوم فقتلوه فجاء نعي زوجي وأنا في دار من دور الأنصار شاسعة عن دور أهلي فأتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت يا رسول الله إنه أتاني نعي زوجي وأنا في دار ودار إخوتي شاسعة عن دار أهلي ولم يدع مالا ينفق علي ولا مال ورثته ولا دار يملكها فإن رأيت أن تأذن فألحق دار أهلي أو دار إخوتي فإنه أحب إلي وأجمع إلى بعض امري قال فافعلي إن شئت قالت فخرجت قريرة عين لما قضى الله على لسان رسوله حتى إذا كنت في المسجد أو في بعض الحجرة دعاني فسأل كيف زعمت فقصصت عليه القصة فقال امكثي في بيتك الذي كان فيه زوجك حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله قالت فاعتدت فيه أربعة أشهر وعشرا
