Hadith 10:1244
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Hafsa bint Sirin, from Umm 'Atiyyah, that she said: She shall not apply kohl, nor shall she apply henna, nor shall she wear dyed clothing, except for a garment of 'asb (Yemeni cloth). And she shall not apply perfume, except when she washes from her menstruation, with a small amount of qust (costus) or azfar (a type of incense). She says this regarding the woman whose husband has died.
حدثنا أبو بكر قال نا سفيان بن عيينة عن عاصم عن حفصة ابنة سيرين عن أم عطية أنها قالت لا تكتحل ولا تختضب ولا تلبس ثوبا مصبوغا إلا ثوب عصب ولا تطيب إلا عند غسلها من حيضتها بنبذة من قسط أو أظفار تقول في المتوفى عنها
