Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Marwan bin Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from Waqid, the freed slave of Banu Hanzalah, who said: Ata' bin Abi Rabah was asked about a man who caught a thief, and the people gathered around him and requested that he let him go. He said, "If I let him go, then my wife is thrice divorced." Then he was overpowered, and the thief escaped from him. He (the narrator) said: Ata' said, "There is nothing upon him, for he was merely overpowered."
