Hadith 10:1547
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Abu Talq, from his father, from Aws ibn Thureyb, who said: I hired out [my services/transport] to Al-Hajjaj, then I entered the Sacred Mosque, and there were Umar and Jarir. He said: Umar said to Jarir, "O Abu Amr, how do you manage with your wives?" He said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I encounter from them such intensity that I cannot enter the house of one of them on a day other than her day, nor can I kiss the daughter of one of them on a day other than her day, except that they become angry." He said: Umar said, "Indeed, many of them do not believe in Allah, nor are they trustworthy for the believers. Perhaps you might be in need of one of them, and she would accuse you [falsely]." He said: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who was among the people, said, "O Commander of the Faithful, do you not know that Ibrahim complained to his Lord about a defect in the creation of Sarah?" He said: It was said to him, "Indeed, the woman is like a rib; if you straighten it, you will break it, and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, live with your family despite what is in them." He said: Umar said to Abdullah, "Indeed, there is not a little knowledge in your heart." He said it three times. Some of the narrators added to it—I think it was Sufyan—"as long as he does not see in her a violation of her religion."
حدثنا أبو بكر قال نا أبو أسامة عن أبي طلق عن أبيه عن أوس بن ثريب قال أكريت الحجاج فدخلت المسجد الحرام فإذا عمر وجرير قال فقال عمر لجرير يا أبا عمرو كيف تصنع مع نسائك فقال يا أمير المؤمنين إني ألقى منهن شدة ما أستطيع أن أدخل بيت إحداهن في غير يومها ولا أقبل ابنة إحداهن في غير يومها إلا غضبن قال فقال عمر إن كثيرا منهن لا يؤمن بالله ولا يؤمن للمؤمنين لعلك أن تكون في حاجة إحداهن فتتهمك قال فقال عبد الله بن مسعود وهو في القوم يا أمير المؤمنين أما تعلم أن إبراهيم شكا إلى ربه درءا في خلق سارة قال فقيل له إن المرأة مثل الضلع إن أقمتها كسرتها وإن تركتها اعوجت فالبس أهلك على ما فيهم قال فقال عمر لعبد الله إن في قلبك من العلم غير قليل قالها ثلاث مرات زاد فيه بعض الصحابة أظنه سفيان ما لم ير عليها حرمة في دينها
