Hadith 15:113
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn Numayr narrated to us, from Hallam ibn Salih, from Sulayk ibn Mashhal, who said: Umar went out for Hajj or Umrah, and he stopped at a water source. He called for a dining mat, so he ate, and the people ate. Then he called for a drink, and a cup of nabidh (fermented drink) was brought to him. He said, "Pass it to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf." When he smelled it, he returned it. Then he passed it to Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, and when he smelled it, he returned it. He said, "Bring it here," and he tasted it. He then said, "O 'Ajlan," meaning his servant, "what is this?" He replied, "O Commander of the Faithful, I put raisins in a waterskin, then I hung it on the belly of the riding beast and poured water over it." He said, "Bring two witnesses for what you say." So he brought two witnesses, and they testified. He then said, "O my son, wash your waterskin so that its drink may become mild for us, for the waterskin becomes fermented."
