Hadith 15:278
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Harrani, who said: I said to Abdullah ibn Umar, "We are in a land that has dates and raisins. May we mix the dates and the raisins and steep them together?" He said, "No." I said, "Why?" He said, "A man became intoxicated during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he was brought to the Prophet while he was intoxicated. He struck him, then asked him about his drink. He said, 'I drank *nabidh* (steeped drink).' He said, 'Which *nabidh*?' He said, 'A *nabidh* of dates and raisins.' The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, 'Do not mix them, for each one of them is sufficient on its own.'"
