Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 17:1119

Hushaym narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from Jabir, that Umar ibn al-Khattab came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) with a book he had obtained from some of the People of the Book. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have obtained a good book from some of the People of the Book." He became angry and said, "Are you confused about it, O son of al-Khattab? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I have brought it to you white and pure. Do not ask them about anything, for they might tell you the truth and you deny it, or they might tell you a falsehood and you believe it. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if Moses were alive, he would have no choice but to follow me."
