Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 17:1153

Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, he said: Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, he said: Who follows [the practice of] narrating the hadith exactly as he heard it? Ibn Sirin, al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, and Raja' ibn Haywah [did so]. And among those who did not follow that were al-Hasan, Ibrahim, and al-Sha'bi. Ibn 'Awn said: I said to Muhammad, "So-and-so does not follow [the practice of] narrating the hadith exactly as he heard it." He replied, "As for that, if he were to follow it, it would be better for him."
