Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 17:1309

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Jami' ibn Shaddad, from al-Aswad ibn Hilal, who said: A man came to Abdullah and said: "I feared that this verse would afflict me: 'And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul' (the verse). I am not able to give anything that I am able to withhold." Abdullah said: "That is stinginess, and what an evil thing stinginess is."
