Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 17:1320

Abu Usama narrated to us, from Jarir ibn Hazim, from Ibn Sirin, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) reached the evening, he would divide a group of the people of the Suffah among a group of his companions. A man would take one man, a man would take two men, and a man would take three men, until he mentioned ten. He said: Sa’d ibn Ubadah would return to his family with eighty [men] to provide for them.
