Hadith 17:727
Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Mujalid informed us, he said: 'Amir informed me, he said: Rib'i ibn Hirash informed us that he came to Umar with a group from Ghatafan, and they mentioned poetry. Umar said: "Which of your poets is the most poetic?" They said: "You know better, O Commander of the Faithful." Umar said: "Who is the one who says: 'I came to you naked, my clothes worn out, in fear, with suspicions cast upon me. Yet I found the trust, you did not betray it; just as Noah was, he did not betray'?" Then he said the like of that. Then he said: "Who is the one who says: 'I swore, and I did not leave for myself any doubt, and there is no path for a person beyond Allah'?" Then he said: "Who is the one who says: 'Except for Sulayman, when the God said to him: Stand in the wilderness and restrain it from folly'?" We said: "Al-Nabigha." He said: "This is the most poetic of your poets."
حدثنا أبو أسامة قال أخبرنا مجالد قال أخبرني عامر قال أخبرنا ربعي بن حراش أنه أتى عمر في نفر من غطفان فذكروا الشعر فقال عمر أي شعرائكم أشعر فقالوا أنت أعلم يا أمير المؤمنين قال فقال عمر من الذي يقول % أتيتك عاريا خلقا ثيابي % على خوف يظن بي الظنون % % فألفيت الأمانة لم تخنها % كذلك كان نوح لا يخون % ثم قال مثل ذلك ثم قال من الذي يقول % حلفت فلم أترك لنفسي ريبة % وليس وراء الله للمرء مذهب % % ثم قال من الذي يقول % إلا سليمان إذ قال الاله له % قم في البرية فازجرها عن الفند % قلنا النابغة قال هذا أشعر شعرائكم
