Hadith 17:753
Yazid narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Malik ibn Qudama al-Jumahi informed us, he said: Umar ibn Shu’ayb—the brother of Amr ibn Shu’ayb—narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: When the people lowered their hands from Siffin, Amr ibn al-As said: "The war has grown old, so I have prepared for it, With a high-withered [horse] that is a destroyer of the cold. It connects one charge with another, and when The horses leap from the torrent, it is swift. A large-chested one, its hollow is deep, And when it is moistened by water, it emerges." He said: And Abdullah ibn Amr said: "If you had witnessed the Camel [battle] in my position and my presence, At Siffin, the locks of hair would have turned gray from it. On the morning the people of Iraq came as if they were Spring clouds, driven by the led horses. And we came to them running, as if our ranks Were a surging wave of the sea, piled up. And our millstone turned, and their millstone turned, Among the chiefs of the tribes, shoulder to shoulder. When I said, 'They have turned away quickly,' there appeared to us Battalions of theirs, and battalions swayed. So they said to us, 'We see that you should pledge allegiance To Ali,' and we said, 'Rather, we see that we should strike [with swords].'"
حدثنا يزيد قال أخبرنا عبد الملك بن قدامة الجمحي قال حدثني عمر بن شعيب أخو عمرو بن شعيب عن أبيه عن جده قال لما رفع الناس أيديهم من صفين قال عمرو بن العاص % شبت الحرب فأعددت لها % مفرع الحارك مودى الثلج % % يصل الشد بشد فإذا % وثب الخيل من الثج معج % % جرشع أعظمه حفرته % فإذا ابتل من الماء خرج % قال وقال عبد الله بن عمرو % لو شهدت جمل مقامي ومشهدي % بصفين يوما شاب منها الذوائب % % غداة أتى أهل العراق كأنهم % سحاب ربيع صفقته الجنائب % % وجئناهم يردى كأن صفوفنا % من البحر مد موجة متراكب % % ودارت رحانا واستدارت رحاهم % سراة اليهادى ما توالى المناكب % % إذا قلت قد ولوا سراعا بدت لنا % كتائب مهم وارجحنت كتائب % % فقالوا لنا إنا نرى أن تبايعوا % عليا فقلنا بل نرى أن نضارب %
