Hadith 17:756

Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Jami’, from Abu Salamah, who said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) were neither deviant nor lethargic. They would recite poetry to one another in their gatherings and mention the affairs of their pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). However, if one of them was pressured regarding anything of his religion, the whites of his eyes would rotate as if he were a madman.

حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن الوليد بن جميع عن أبي سلمة قال لم يكن أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم منحرفين ولا متماوتين وكانوا يتناشدون الشعر في مجالسهم ويذكرون أمر جاهليتهم فإذا أريد أحدهم على شيء من دينه دارت حماليق عينيه كأنه مجنون
