Hadith 17:773
Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, he said: Mas'ud ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Ibn 'Abbad, from his father, that a man from Banu Layth came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I recite poetry to you." He said: "No." Then he recited to him on the fourth time a eulogy for him. He said: "If any of the poets does well, then you have done well."
حدثنا مالك بن إسماعيل قال حدثنا مسعود بن سعد عن عطاء بن السائب عن بن عباد عن أبيه أن رجلا من بني ليث أتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال يا رسول الله أنشدك قال لا فأنشده في الرابعة مدحة له فقال إن كان أحد من الشعراء يحسن فقد أحسنت
