Hadith 17:854
Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Kamil Abu al-‘Ala’ narrated to us, he said: I heard Salt al-Dehgan forty years ago, from ‘Ali, who said: "That I should smear myself with the soot of a cooking pot is more beloved to me than that I should smear myself with *khuluq* (a type of saffron-based perfume). And that I should turn over two live coals is more beloved to me than that I should turn over two dice."
حدثنا وكيع قال حدثنا كامل أبو العلاء قال سمعت صلت الدهقان منذ أربعين سنة عن علي قال لأن أطلى بجواء قدر أحب إلي من أطلى بخلوق ولأن أقلب جمرتين أحب إلي من أن أقلب كعبين
