Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 23:115

Yunus ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Abu Ma’shar informed us, from Muhammad ibn Salih al-Ansari, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met ‘Awf ibn Malik and said: "How have you reached the morning, O ‘Awf ibn Malik?" He said: "I have reached the morning as a true believer." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, for every statement there is a reality, so what is the reality of that?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, have I not withheld my soul from the world? I have kept my nights awake and made my days thirsty, and it is as if I am looking at the Throne of my Lord, and it is as if I am looking at the people of Paradise visiting one another therein, and it is as if I am looking at the people of the Fire wailing therein." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You have known, so remain steadfast."
