Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 23:121

Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from Ibn Buraydah, from Ibn Ya’mar, who said: We arrived in Medina and came to ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar. We said: "O Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman, we travel in the land and meet people who claim that there is no Qadar (divine decree)." He said: "Are they from the Muslims, from those who pray towards the Qibla?" He said: "Then he became angry until I wished that I had not asked him. Then he said: 'If you meet those people, inform them that ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar is innocent of them, and they are innocent of him.'" Then he said: "If you wish, I will narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: "Yes." He said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when a man came to him, good of clothing, pleasant of scent, and handsome of face. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'You establish the prayer, give the Zakat, fast Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House, and perform Ghusl from Janaba.' He said: 'You have spoken the truth. So what is Iman?' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'You believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, the prophets, and in Qadar, all of it—its good and its evil, its sweet and its bitter.' He said: 'You have spoken the truth.' Then he departed." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Bring the man to me." He said: "So we all stood up, but we could not find him." The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "This is Jibril; he came to you to teach you your religion."
