Hadith 23:9
Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja’d, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "Peace be upon you, O youth of the sons of ‘Abd al-Muttalib." He said: "And upon you." He said: "I am a man from your maternal uncles of the Banu Sa’d ibn Bakr, and I am the messenger of my people to you and their delegate. I am going to ask you, so I will be stern in my questioning of you, and I will adjure you in my adjuration of you." He said: "Ask what you wish, O brother of Banu Sa’d." He said: "I adjure you by Him who created you, and who is the Creator of those before you, and who is the Creator of those after you—is it Allah?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I adjure you by that, did He send you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I adjure you by Him who created the seven heavens and the seven earths, and caused provision to flow between them—is it Allah?" He said: "Yes." He said: "I adjure you by that, did He send you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "We have found in your Book, and your messengers have commanded us, that we should pray five prayers in the day and night at their appointed times. I adjure you by that, did He command you with that?" He said: "Yes." He said: "We have found in your Book, and your messengers have commanded us, that we should take from the fringes of our wealth and return it to our poor. I adjure you by that, did He command you with that?" He said: "Yes." Then he said: "As for the fifth, I will not ask you about it, nor do I have any need for it." He said: "Then he said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I shall certainly act upon them, and whoever obeys me from my people shall do so as well.' Then he turned away." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, laughed until his molars appeared. Then he said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, if he is truthful, he shall surely enter Paradise."
