Hadith 4:153
9019. Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Do not fast before Ramadan. Fast upon seeing it (the crescent), and break your fast upon seeing it. But if a cloud (or: a covering) obscures it from you, then complete thirty [days]."
حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن سماك عن عكرمة عن بن عباس قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا تصوموا قبل رمضان صوموا لرؤيته وافطروا لرؤيته فان حالت دونه غياية ( ( ( غيابة ) ) ) فكملوا ثلاثين
