Hadith 4:163
Hushaym narrated to us, he said: Mujalid informed us, from al-Sha'bi, from Ali, that he used to deliver a sermon when Ramadan approached. He would say: "Beware, do not precede the month. When you see the crescent, then fast, and when you see the crescent, then break your fast. But if it is obscured from you, then complete the count." He said: He used to say that after the afternoon (Asr) prayer and after the dawn (Fajr) prayer.
حدثنا هشيم قال انا مجالد عن الشعبي عن علي انه كان يخطب إذا حضر رمضان فيقول الا لا تقدموا الشهر اذا رأيتم الهلال فصوموا وإذا رأيتم الهلال فافطروا فأن غم عليكم فأتموا العدة قال كان يقول ذلك بعد صلاة العصر وبعد صلاة الفجر
