Hadith 4:213
Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Husayn, from al-Sha’bi, from ‘Adi ibn Hatim, who said: When the verse was revealed: "Until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread," ‘Adi said: "O Messenger of Allah, I place two ropes under my pillow, a black rope and a white rope, so that I may distinguish the night from the day." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Your pillow is indeed long and wide. It is only the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the day."
حدثنا بن إدريس عن حصين عن الشعبي عن عدي بن حاتم قال لما نزلت @QB@ حتى يتبين لكم الخيط الأبيض من الخيط الأسود @QE@ 1 قال عدي يا رسول الله اني أجعل تحت وسادتي عقالين عقالا اسود وعقالا ابيض فأعرف الليل من النهار فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ان وسادك لطويل عريض إنما هو سواد الليل وبياض النهار
