Hadith 4:507
Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Sayfi informed me that Umar ibn Yusuf, brother of the Banu Wa'il, informed him that he heard Mu'awiyah saying upon the pulpit: "Indeed, the day of Ashura is a day of Eid (festival). So whoever wishes, let him fast it—for it used to be fasted—and whoever wishes, let him leave it, and there is no blame."
حدثنا محمد بن بكر عن بن جريج قال أخبرني يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن صيفي أن عمر بن يوسف أخا بني وائل أخبره أنه سمع معاوية يقول على المنبر أن يوم عاشوراء يوم عيد فمن شاء صامه وقد كان يصام ومن شاء تركه ولا حرج
