Hadith 4:607
Waki’ narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Abu Wa’il, who said: We were in Khanaqin, and we sighted the crescent moon of Ramadan. Some of us fasted, and some of us did not fast. Then a letter came to us from Umar [saying]: "The crescents, some are larger than others. So if you see the crescent during the day, do not break your fast, unless two Muslim men testify that they sighted it yesterday."
حدثنا وكيع عن الأعمش عن أبي وائل قال كنا بخانقين ( ( ( مخالفين ) ) ) فأهللنا هلال رمضان فمنا من صام ومنا من أفطر فأتانا كتاب عمر أن الأهلة بعضها أكبر من بعض فإذا رأيتم الهلال نهارا فلا تفطروا إلا أن يشهد رجلان مسلمان أنهما أهلاه بالأمس
