Hadith 4:736
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "How much of the month has passed?" We said: "Twenty-two days have passed, and eight remain." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Rather, twenty-two days have passed, and seven remain. Seek it [Laylat al-Qadr] tonight." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The month is like this, and the month is like this," three times, and he held back one [finger].
حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح عن أبي هريرة قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كم مضى من الشهر قلنا مضى اثنان وعشرون يوما وبقيت ثمان فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بل مضت إثنان وعشرون يوما وبقيت سبع التمسوها الليلة ثم قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الشهر هكذا والشهر هكذا ثلاث مرات وأمسك واحدة
