Hadith 4:803
Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Wasil al-Ahdab, from Ibrahim, who said: Hudhayfah came to ‘Abdullah and said: "Shall I not make you wonder at your people? They are staying [in i’tikaf] between your house and the house of al-Ash’ari," meaning the mosque. ‘Abdullah said: "Perhaps they are correct and I am mistaken." Hudhayfah said: "Do you not know that there is no i’tikaf except in three mosques: the Sacred Mosque, the Furthest Mosque, and the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? And I do not care whether one performs i’tikaf in it or in this market of yours."
حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن واصل الأحدب عن إبراهيم قال جاء حذيفة إلى عبد الله فقال ألا أعجبك من قومك عكوف بين دارك ودار الأشعري يعني المسجد قال عبد الله ولعلهم أصابوا وأخطأت فقال حذيفة أما علمت أنه لا اعتكاف إلا في ثلاثة مساجد المسجد الحرام والمسجد الأقصى ومسجد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وما أبالي اعتكف فيه أو في سوقكم هذه
