Muslimah narrated to us, Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Yusuf al-Makki al-Baghdadi at al-Qulzum narrated to us, he said: My father, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated to me, he said: My father Muhammad bin Yusuf narrated to us, he said: Abu Dawud Sulayman bin Amr al-Nakha’i narrated to us, Sa’id bin Iyas narrated to us, from Alqama, who said: Abdullah bin Abbas said: The first to take a dog was Noah. He said: "O my Lord, You commanded me to build the Ark, and I am in the process of building it. I work for days, and they come to me at night and ruin everything I have built; they ruin it. So when will what You commanded me to do be completed for me? My affair has become long for me." So Allah revealed to him: "O Noah, take a dog to guard you." So Noah took a dog. He would work during the day and sleep at night. When his people came to him to ruin what he had built, the dog would bark at them, and Noah would wake up and take the club to them and leap upon them, so they would flee from him. Thus, what he wanted was completed for him.
