Hadith 34:4
Jarir narrated to us, from Mughira, from al-Sha'bi, from Uthman ibn Yasar, from Tamim ibn Hudhlum, who said: The first time a greeting was given to an amir (commander) in Kufa with the title of "Amir," al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba came out of the palace. A man from Kinda confronted him and greeted him with the title of "Amir." He (al-Mughira) said, "What is this? I am nothing but a man among them." So it was left for a time, then he accepted it afterward.
حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة عن الشعبي عن عثمان بن يسار عن تميم بن حذلم قال أول ما سلم على أمير بالكوفة بالأمرة قال خرج المغيرة بن شعبة من القصر فعرض له رجل من كندة فسلم عليه بالامرة فقال ما هذا ما أنا إلا رجل منهم فتركت زمانا ثم أقرها بعد
