Hadith 34:87
Uthman ibn Mutarrif narrated to us, from Hisham, from Qatada, who said: The first person to dye [his hair] in Islam was Abu Quhafa. He was shown to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his head was like the *thughama* (a white plant). He said: "Change it with something, and avoid black."
حدثنا عثمان بن مطرف عن هشام عن قتادة قال أول مخضوب خضب في الإسلام أبو قحافة أريه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ورأسه مثل الثغامة فقال غيروه بشيء وجنبوه السواد
