Hadith 6:778
Sahl ibn Yusuf narrated to us, from Humayd, from Bakr, who said: Maslamah ibn Mukhallad was in Egypt. He said: He brought us men and women, and they did not know how they should arrange themselves. Maslamah said: "Your practice in death is your practice in life." He said: So the women were placed behind the Imam, and the men were in front of that.
حدثنا سهل بن يوسف عن حميد عن بكر قال كان مسلمة بن مخلد بمصر قال فجاءنا برجال ونساء فجعلوا لا يدرون كيف يصنعون فقال مسلمة سنتكم في الموت سنتكم في الحياة قال فجعل النساء مما يلي الإمام والرجال امام ذلك
