Hadith 6:834
Ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, from his father, who said: The companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, gathered when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, died. One man would dig a *lahd* (a niche in the side of the grave) and another would dig a *shaqq* (a trench in the center of the grave). They said, "O Allah, choose for him." Then, the one who used to dig the *lahd* appeared, so he dug the *lahd* for him.
حدثنا بن مهدي عن سفيان عن عبد الرحمن بن القاسم عن أبيه قال اجتمع اصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم حين مات النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فكان الرجل يلحد والآخر يشق فقالوا اللهم ( خر ) له فطلع الذي كان يلحد فلحد له
