Hadith 8:1320
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: 'Abbad bin al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Husayn, from Mujahid, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) met a group of people among whom was a singer (hadi) who was singing (huda). When he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him), their singer became silent. He (the Prophet) said: "Who are the people?" They said: "From Mudar." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "What is the matter with your singer? He is not singing." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are the first of the Arabs to sing (huda)." He said: "And why is that?" They said: "A man among us—and they named him for us—was away from his camels during the days of spring, so he sent a servant of his with the camels. The servant was slow to return, so he struck him on his hand with a stick. The servant went off saying: 'O my hand!' He said: 'The camels moved because of that and became lively.' He said: 'So he said to him: Stop! Stop!' He said: 'Then the people began the singing (huda).'"
