Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 8:1403

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Khalid narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ibn Tawus, from his father, who said: My father never prayed with the Imam at Arafat, and he used to combine the two [prayers], and he used to perform voluntary prayers between them. And he used to do that from the neighborhood until he reached Makkah.
