Hadith 8:3180
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-A’la narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from an old woman from the people of Mecca, who said: "Ibn Affan was afflicted [killed] while I was a girl of fourteen years." She said: "And I have seen the House (the Kaaba) while there was no covering upon it except what the people would cover it with; the red garment would be thrown upon it, and the white cloth, and the woolen garment. And whatever was used to cover it would be hung upon it. And I have seen it while there was no gold or silver upon it." Muhammad said: "The House was not covered during the time of Abu Bakr nor Umar. And Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz covered it with *wasa'il* (striped garments) and *qabati* (fine white Egyptian linen), and the *wasa'il* are Yemeni garments."
حدثنا أبو بكر قال نا عبد الأعلى عن محمد بن إسحاق عن عجوز من أهل مكة قالت قد أصيب بن عفان وأنا ابنة أربع عشرة سنة قالت ولقد رأيت البيت وما عليه كسوة إلا ما تكسوه الناس الكساء الأحمر يطرح عليه والثوب الأبيض والكساء الصوف وما كسي من شيء علق عليه ولقد رأيته وما عليه ذهب ولا فضة قال محمد إن البيت لم يكن يكسى على عهد أبي بكر ولا عمر وإن عمر بن عبد العزيز كسا الوصائل والقباطي والوصائل ثياب يمانية
