Hadith 8:584
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Abi Yahya, from Salih ibn al-Mahdi, that his father informed him, saying: I performed Hajj with Uthman, and we arrived in Makkah. I spread out a bedding for him in the house of Farqad. A pigeon came and landed in a niche above his bedding, and it began to scratch with its feet. I feared that it would scatter [dust/debris] onto his bedding and he would wake up, so I shooed it away. It landed in another niche, and a snake came out of it, so I killed it. When Uthman woke up, I informed him. He said: "Offer a sheep on your behalf." He [Salih's father] said: "I only shooed it away for your sake." He [Uthman] said: "And offer a sheep on my behalf."
